Eclat in Tokyo - May 98

Eclat was invited in Tokyo to play two concerts. We were the only french band selected and approved by the ministry of foreign matters within the framework of the Year of France in Japan. The occasion was too important to be missed ! On site, the event was possible thanks to the efforts of a team of passionate fans.

May 21. We are a bunch of people to leave Marignane since several friends wanted to be part of the adventure, alongside a certain "Belutulan Sifélédi" (you know who you are...).

May 22. After 12 hours of flight, we arrive in Tokyo, completely dumb from the trip, the jetlag and the gigantism of the megapole. The travel between the airport and the hotel seems without end to us.

Mai 23. A good night of sleep and here we are in front of the Egg-Man, a famous rock club in Tokyo. Eclat and Gerard are the headliners of a festival organized by Shingo Ueno, the manager of several japanese prog rock bands. The venue is not very large but soon, it starts to fill up with an apparently very quiet audience. We certainly were surprised at first, not knowing how to deal with the people. However, after a few songs, the reactions gets clearer and everything becomes easier for us.

May 24. Second date in Tokyo at the Silver Elephant. This time, we are the kings of the night in this mythical progressive club ! The concert is organized by Yoichi Nakajima, a very nice person, helped by the PRR society which starts to get involved in concert organization. The venue is well equipped and the audience can take advantage of a very good sound. Now it's our turn to let our remaining energy go and give it all, especially as we just learned that the good measure for a concert to last is about 2h30 ! For this reason, we could develop our songs as we never had done before. The public is crazy and does not want to let us go ! The encores don't stop and the puclic is calling our name "ekoula, ekoula" ! In the audience are Tamami Yamamoto and Sato-ken, respectively lead-singer and manager of the band Wappa Gappa. They will tell us afterwards that this attitude was not common in the club.

On the following day, Philippe, Michel and Thierry left for France while the rest of our little troup extended this trip in Japan for a few more days.
